HELLO EVERYONE!
A few weeks ago, I rediscovered my first MP3 player, the Zen V. I bought it back in 2006 when I was 13 years old. Naturally, I was very curious to see what music I had on it. I’ve always had a very eclectic taste in music, so I found a lot of different artists and genres on it – ranging from pop to rock to songs from the 80s and the early 2000s. It was a fun throwback listening to my old music and it brought back so many memories, which is why I want to share my playlist with you. I created a Spotify playlist with 25 of my favorite songs (about 1 hr 30 minutes) from my Zen V called, My Zen V Playlist. Also, I included links to the original music videos, and provided commentary about most of the songs on the playlist. I hope you enjoy listening to my throwback playlist and have fun jammin’ along with me!
My Zen V Playlist (2006)
Let’s be honest though, many of us first heard this song from Shrek back in 2001. When the song starts, I just can’t get the image of Shrek opening the bathroom door out of my head. Haha!
Was this guy just a One-Hit Wonder? I’d love to know if he made any good songs after that.
Beautiful Soul – Jesse McCartney
I loved Jesse’s romantic and dance party songs. “Beautiful Soul” is one of my faves from him.
The only reason I know this song is because I heard it on Charmed. Charmed had the best music!
The first time I heard this song, I was watching Life Size. It’s definitely another song that I have a movie scene associated with it. It’s when Eve is trying on clothes at the mall with Casey. It’s such a cute and catchy song – I still love it!
Careless Whisper – George Michael
Before hearing this song, I never heard of George Michael. In 2005, I first heard “Careless Whisper” at a family wedding and probably played it a hundred times afterwards. Of course, at 11 years old, I didn’t know what the song was about. Haha!
If you know at least one Avril Lavigne song, it’s probably, “Complicated.” Growing up, I enjoyed listening to Avril’s music, and I still do today.
Crazy (James Michael Mix) – Alanis Morissette
Although you can’t beat the original, “Crazy” by Seal, Alanis did a great job making the song her own. I remember this version of the song was made for The Devil Wears Prada. I love both versions a lot!
Dirty Little Secret – The All-America Rejects
G.N.O Girls Night Out – Miley Cyrus
I totally forgot about this song! It was one of Miley’s first songs as herself – not Hannah Montana. Although, this song is from a Hannah Montana CD. Personally, I think it was pretty edgy for Hannah. Haha!
Girls Just Want to Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper
How can you not love this 80s girl anthem? Girls Just Want to Have Fun is probably one of my favorite 80s movies! It has an amazing soundtrack!
Since I was 6 years old, I’ve been listening to Shakira. “Hips Don’t Lie” made Shakira a hit with the English speaking audience. This song always makes me want to dance!
Hollaback Girl – Gwen Stefani (Explicit)
“This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!” Because of Gwen Stefani we would never forget how to spell, “bananas.”
“Home” was the first Daughtry song I ever heard. Unfortunately, I didn’t watch Chris Daughtry on American Idol, but I ended up loving his first album. Daughtry is now one of my favorite singers and I was lucky enough to see him in concert with 3 Doors Down in 2012.
“How Soon Is Now” by Love Spit Love is the theme song for Charmed – my favorite TV show of all time. I know this song has been done many times. It’s always interesting hearing this song with female vocals. Which version is your favorite?
Here’s another Smash Mouth song from Shrek. If you didn’t know Smash Mouth before, you knew them after watching Shrek. That is for sure.
The Ketchup Song (Asereje) – Las Ketchup
Do you guys remember Hit Clips? Well, I actually had the Hit Clip of this song, which is how I discovered it. I prefer the Spanish version, but the Spanglish version is pretty good too.
Fun fact: Bring It On did a fun and silly music video of “Mickey” in the end credits of the movie.
How many people think of Mean Girls when they hear this song?
Move Along – The All-American Rejects
Our Lips Our Sealed – Hilary and Haylie Duff
Of course, you can’t beat the original song by The Go-Go’s, but I’ve always been a fan of Hilary Duff, so I thought it was a cute cover she did with her sister.
You Are My Number One ft. Ranking Roger – Smash Mouth
Of course, I had to end this nostalgia-filled playlist with another song from Smash Mouth.
If you made it to the end of this post, thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed listening to My Zen V Playlist. Which songs were your favorite? Were any of these songs new to you? Please let me know if you would like a part 2 to this playlist. If so, let me know if you want my commentary included. Comment below your thoughts on my playlist!
I hope to see you in my next blog post!

March 2, 2018 at 12:56 pmokay, so thank you so much for the fact that i got connected with you through this post. why? because i just lost my iphone touch recently, when it was the only thing i wanted back in 2010. 🙁 and i think we’ve got the same taste of music because the songs listed there, like half of it i’ve got them too. in fact, i barely update anything on my playlist since mid early 2000s. those songs are still actually on my current spotify account as well, so well done! 😀
