Hello, my fellow Geeks! Recently, I received the Charmed: Box of Shadows – April 2019 box. Box of Shadows is a quarterly subscription box filled with goodies from the TV show, Charmed. For those who may not know, Charmed is about 4 sisters who discover they are witches – Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige. They fight against demons, warlocks, and other evil forces. The sisters are protectors of the innocent and are known as The Charmed Ones.
So far, the April box is the third Box of Shadows I’ve received. I reviewed the first box on the blog, Charmed: 20 Years, which celebrated the show’s 20th anniversary. Feel free to check out the post, Charmed: Box of Shadows – October 2018! You can still order the first box on Box of Shadows’ website.
Let’s take a look at Charmed: Box of Shadows – April 2019, which includes Piper Halliwell themed kitchenware and exclusive memorabilia.
Piper Halliwell
The theme for the Charmed: Box of Shadows – April 2019 is…Piper Halliwell. Piper (Holly Marie Combs) is the middle Halliwell sister who later takes on the role as the eldest. She has the power to freeze time, as well as, blow things up. Not only is she a powerful witch, but she’s a chef, owner of the nightclub – P3, a mom, and a wife to Leo Wyatt.
Piper is such a badass. She has a kind heart, so many sassy comebacks, and kicks demon ass on a daily basis while raising her children, and running her club. She’s the glue that keeps her family together. A real role model, who I’ve always looked up to. Unfortunately, I’ll never have her kickass powers. But hopefully, I share her strength, kindness, and her will to never give up.
In my opinion, Piper is the sister with the most character development throughout the series. Personally, I resonate with her the most. In the earlier seasons, Piper is shy and unsure of herself and her powers. She wants to make everyone happy and is afraid to speak her mind. By the final season, Piper is a force to be reckoned with as the leader of her family. She doesn’t take anyone’s shit. Although, she still has the same kind, loving, and warm heart.
Piper and Leo’s love story gives me life and has been my role model for a real loving relationship. As you can see, Piper is my favorite Halliwell sister, and probably my favorite TV show character of all time.

Bay Mirror Newsletter & Spoiler Card
Every Box of Shadows, I look forward to receiving the latest volume of The Bay Mirror (the box’s newsletter and spoiler card). The Bay Mirror is the San Francisco newspaper Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) works for as an advice columnist.
The date on the newsletter is Tuesday, August 7th, 1973 – Piper Halliwell’s birthday. The image on the front page is of the beautiful Holly Marie Combs, who plays Piper. Fun fact: Holly’s birthday is December 3rd, 1973 – the same year as Piper.
Inside the newsletter, you’ll find information about the items included in this month’s box. As well as, an “Ask Phoebe” column, which has a Piper Pop Quiz, which consists of 10 questions. I must say, I knew the answers to most of them. In addition, the column features iconic Piper quotes, and a bunch of Piper covers from the Charmed magazine, which I collected back in the day. In fact, my Belthazor fan art is featured in one of the issues. I’ll have to share it with you guys sometime!
Piper Halliwell’s Apron (FanMail) – $13.00
The Piper-themed box has a few kitchen related items, which includes a black apron with the most relatable Piper quote ever. Written in lovely lilac hand-lettering is an iconic Piper quote, “I’m not obsessed. I just need everything to be perfect. That’s all.” As a perfectionist myself, I definitely resonate with that quote. I laughed out loud when I first read it. Recently, I’ve been trying to get into cooking, so the apron came at the perfect time. The black apron is sleek, and the lilac hand-lettering really pops. As a bonus, the apron has pockets too!
“Quake” Enamel Pin (FanMail) – $12.00
Before she was the nightclub owner of P3, Piper was the manager at Quake, a fancy schmancy restaurant. So Season 1! During the first season, a lot of magical shenanigans happened at Quake. It was also the sister’s post-demon fighting drink spot. To my surprise, the enamel pin included in this box was the iconic Quake sign. I died. The enamel pin is an off-white with gold trim. Very elegant! Quake is written in its serif logotype on a sign (almost) split in half. If you’re a Charmed fan you know, P3. But, if you’re a hardcore diehard Charmed fan like myself, you remember Quake. I’m so excited to add this Quake pin to my enamel pin collection!
Potions Potholders (FanMail) – $20.00
The other kitchen item included in April’s box was a set of potholders. As a lady in my mid-twenties, I’ve been trying to grow my collection of kitchenware. These potholders are the perfect addition. The potion bottle pattern is a subtle geeky nod to Charmed. Like the apron, the potholders are black except with a range of different shaped potion bottles in a bright yellow. Both kitchenware items complement each other quite nicely.
Piper 8×10 Portrait (Holtzheimer) – $8.00
Of course, a Piper-themed box wouldn’t be complete without a photo print of Piper herself. At the bottom of April’s box was an 8×10 portrait of Piper sitting on the attic floor with the Book of Shadows. I recognized this photo from a magazine article back in the day. It’s one of my favorite photos of Piper/Holly. I think it was for Charmed’s fourth season when Rose McGowan joined the cast. I must say, the quality of the photo is pretty good. One day, I hope to get it signed by Holly.
Mahogany Bookmark (Juniper & Ivy Designs) – $10.00
I love that Box of Shadows includes handcrafted items in their boxes. Included in this box was a mahogany bookmark with a turquoise tassel. It’s stunning! Engraved in the bookmark is a famous Piper quote, “You are safe. You are loved. You are wise.” If you’re a Charmed fan, you know that quote is from Season 5, Episode 15, “The Day the Magic Died”. Piper says that to her eldest son, Wyatt when he is born. I think those are words to live by and acknowledge.
Halliwell Manor Miniatures: Piper Halliwell, Leo Wyatt, & The Kitchen (Tziporah Thompson) – $42.00
Box of Shadows has included in every box, a Halliwell Manor Miniature. In the previous two boxes we received the attic, the Book of Shadows, and Kit the cat. Since the box is Piper-themed, it’s only fitting that she’d have her own miniature, as well as, her husband Leo (Brian Krause), and her favorite place in the Halliwell manor – the kitchen. Both Piper and Leo are dressed in outfits from Season 1 – complete with their 90s hairstyles. These miniatures make me very nostalgic of the early seasons when Piper and Leo were first fell in love.
No exaggeration, Piper and Leo are my favorite TV show couple of all-time. The couple has a wonderful love story that has been a true example of a romantic relationship. Piper and Leo went through so many ups and downs. But, in the end, they always came back to each other.
Last August at Wizard World Chicago, my dream came true and I attended a meet and greet with Holly Marie Combs and Brian Krause. I even got a picture with them! It was the most surreal moment of my life. If you’re interested in hearing more about my experience, check out my blog post, Wizard World Chicago 2018.
July Theme – Phoebe Halliwell
In July, the theme for Charmed: Box of Shadows is…Phoebe Halliwell! Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) is the youngest of the three original Halliwell sisters. She has the power of premonition, levitation, and empathy. Phoebe is rebellious, sexy, free-spirited, and a total badass. She’s best known for turning into various magical creatures, as well as, falling in love with a demon. Not to mention, her many hairstyles. When she’s not kicking demon ass (and boy, does she kick ass), she’s giving relationship advice to her readers at The Bay Mirror.
In July’s box, I hope to find Bay Mirror swag, a Halliwell Manor Miniature of Phoebe (and maybe our first miniature of everyone’s favorite demon, Belthazor), a poster of Phoebe/Alyssa, and maybe some sort of item inspired by the many magical creatures Phoebe has turned into throughout the series.
Do you have any guesses what Phoebe-related items might be inside July’s box? Box of Shadows is now accepting new subscribers to Charmed: Box of Shadows for their July box on their website!
Charmed: Box of Shadows – April 2019 Review
Overall, the Box of Shadows – Piper Halliwell box was fantastic! Since Piper is my favorite Halliwell sister, I’m glad she was the first to be featured. I’m looking forward to the other sister’s boxes. I like that the box had a mix of practical items like the kitchenware, as well as, other Charmed memorabilia. As a Charmed fan, it exciting to receive items that are exclusive to the box. Those items are really special. After receiving three Box of Shadows, it’s exciting to see the reoccurring items that are in every box, such as the enamel pins and the Halliwell Manor Miniatures. I’m looking forward to those items in future boxes, and curious how each item will be inspired by a different theme.
Thank you, Box of Shadows for another great box! I’m really looking forward to receiving the July box, and unboxing more magical goodies!
What’s your favorite Charmed item from the April Box of Shadows?
I hope to see you in my next blog post! Blessed Be!

July 30, 2019 at 7:45 amI LOVE “Charmed” – watch the reruns every morning – got the Triquatra tattooed on my leg – I always cry at the end of the last episode, then it starts over again. There is nothing that could compare to the original – the very beginning. <3

August 21, 2019 at 7:39 amI totally agree! I love Charmed with all of my heart and the original is without a doubt the best. The triquetra is so iconic and a great tattoo. Tbh, I want to get one myself. The finale always makes me cry as well and was the most satisfying ending. Good news tho, you can always watch it all over again. Thanks for reading!❤️
